Model SJ3541
Black, interlocking mushroom-shaped heads (400 stem density per square inch) provide strong, reliable and durable fastening that can be opened and closed multiple times
Mates with Type 170 and Type 250 stem densities to provide different strength combinations
Synthetic rubber-based adhesive bonds well to a variety of substrates including low surface energy plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene
Strong fastener secures with an audible snap, verifying closure
An alternative to screws and bolts, this hidden fastener provides a snug fit and smooth aesthetic appearance
Features good temperature resistance of 120°F (49°C)
Best suited for indoor use

Risk/Unknowns Identification
What are the major technical risks or unknowns associated with this project?
Prompts for areas of investigation include regulation risks (i.e. headlight brightness doesn’t meet regs), mechanical risks (i.e headlight melting from high temperature), manufacturing/assembly risks (i.e how does headlight mount to aero body?)
Risk/Unknown Mitigation Concepting
What can we do to mitigate these aforementioned risks/unknowns?
Risk/Unknown
Order of Importance
Mitigation
How to Test
Seat Fabrication and Stackable Seats - how stable will it be when being attatched but must also be able to remove to meet height and vision regs for people of various heights.
1
Use velcro to attach and detach stackable seats
Using 3M Fastener - seems to be the best option/strongest
Calculations
Bolster and Cushions - How thick do the bolsters have to be - how much impact do they have to absorb in the case of an accident
3
Ballast container Fabrication - Make sure the container material is strong and the lid does not come of easily - make sure it is okay in the case of an impact
2
Ballast bag compartment and seat integration - placed in a safe space where it is secured and close to the passengers. Must have easy access for switching - must be fastened safely and within 300mm of hip
2
Head rest - Test clearance and adjustable for helmet and no helmet
3
Ensure head rest is adjustable for heights of all drivers with and without a helmet and ensure clearance. Not really any way to mitigate
Task | Description | Test Done | Status |
---|---|---|---|
Ballast attached by Seat belt | Ballast bag attatched by reclosable fastener in the container for easy switch between bags when seats are being changed | Calculations (see below) | Done (See below) |
Stackable Seat attached with reclosable fasteners | Stackable Seats held together with reclosable fastener. Will be underneath the fabric and able to be inserted with a zipper | Calculations (see below) | Done (See Below) |
Bolster and Seat Testing | Testing seat design and bolsters before it is manufactured | See below for more details on how that will work, what is needed etc | Done (See below) |
Fabrics | Just researching into seat fabrics | No test, see below for research | In Progress |

Strap we are using https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/light-duty-lashing-straps-1-in-x-12-ft-2-pk-0402701p.html?rrec=true#spc
Bolster Update : Using straps for bolster instead of velcro. Max Newtons is 1471 which is 150kg which is below the 204kg max so it is safe
Seat and Bolster Test Bench - What is needed
Chassis needs to be installed
maybe bottom panels
maybe doors (the more parts of the car installed, the better)
the more things installed the more parts we can try and fix for comfort (ex doors arent necessary but would help with overall comfort)
Construct bolsters and Seats out of wood
general shape does not need to have exact curvature
head part so we can see comfort with helmet
make stackable seat separately and test comfort
same for bolsters
can get fabrics and cushions samples to test comfort
Questions to ask people testing
Rate comfort of cushions
Seat design, stackable seat overall comfort of seat and bolsters
Suggestions for how it can be modified/changed and proceed with those changes
Fabrics
Doesnt need waterproof coating being used for catamaran cover
Material options
PVC Fabric
lower end
uglier asthetic
Not very confortable
cheaper
Nylon Fabric
universal seat fabric
Durable and Cheap
Vinyl Fabric
Easy to clean
Nice asthetic (gives leather astheitic without being faux leather)
Durable and good quality
Comfortable
Good for a seat cover
Comes in wide range of colours
