Risk/Unknowns Identification

What are the major technical risks or unknowns associated with this project?

Prompts for areas of investigation include regulation risks (i.e. headlight brightness doesn’t meet regs), mechanical risks (i.e headlight melting from high temperature), manufacturing/assembly risks (i.e how does headlight mount to aero body?)

Risk/Unknown Mitigation Concepting

What can we do to mitigate these aforementioned risks/unknowns?

Risk/Unknown

Order of Importance

Mitigation

How to Test

Seat Fabrication and Stackable Seats - how stable will it be when being attatched but must also be able to remove to meet height and vision regs for people of various heights.

1

Use velcro to attach and detach stackable seats

Using 3M Fastener - seems to be the best option/strongest

Calculations

Bolster and Cushions - How thick do the bolsters have to be - how much impact do they have to absorb in the case of an accident

3

Ballast container Fabrication - Make sure the container material is strong and the lid does not come of easily - make sure it is okay in the case of an impact

2

Ballast bag compartment and seat integration - placed in a safe space where it is secured and close to the passengers. Must have easy access for switching - must be fastened safely and within 300mm of hip

2

Head rest - Test clearance and adjustable for helmet and no helmet

3

Ensure head rest is adjustable for heights of all drivers with and without a helmet and ensure clearance. Not really any way to mitigate

Can test clearance on solidworks

Bolster Update : Using straps for bolster instead of velcro. Max Newtons is 1471 which is 150kg which is below the 204kg max so it is safe

Seat and Bolster Test Bench - What is needed

  1. Chassis needs to be installed

    1. maybe bottom panels

    2. maybe doors (the more parts of the car installed, the better)

    3. the more things installed the more parts we can try and fix for comfort (ex doors arent necessary but would help with overall comfort)

  2. Construct bolsters and Seats out of wood

    1. general shape does not need to have exact curvature

    2. head part so we can see comfort with helmet

    3. make stackable seat separately and test comfort

    4. same for bolsters

    5. can get fabrics and cushions samples to test comfort

Questions to ask people testing

  1. Rate comfort of cushions

  2. Seat design, stackable seat overall comfort of seat and bolsters

  3. Suggestions for how it can be modified/changed and proceed with those changes
