Vision

Background Information

Give some background information about why we are pursuing this project

Goal

Define the project goalDriver interface related to the information and display a driver interacts with while using the vehicle.

Goal

Create user interface that allows driver to control systems in the vehicle (ie turn signalling), while getting information about the performance of the vehicle (ie turn indicators).

Project Requirements

Rayce Regulations

These are requirements driven by the Rayce regulations.

...

TBD

Internal Requirements

These are requirements driven by Midnight Sun.

  • List requirement that Midnight Sun is imposing on the projectTBD

Soft requirements

These criteria would be nice to have but not critical to the project's success:

  • List soft requirement that Midnight Sun is imposing on the projectControls should mimic real car (cruise control, indicators etc.)

Deliverables

  •  Type your task here, using "@" to assign to a user and "//" to select a due date

...

Come up with at least three designs and explain the advantages and disadvantages of each. Include sketches and screenshots of CAD models where applicable.

Research Session 1

  • Goal: To gain a better understanding of the racing process and driver/passenger frustrations
  • Main insights:
    1. Drivers need more feedback from the car
    2. Most important information for drivers
      1. Speed
      2. Battery pack voltage (SOC)
      3. Turn signal
      4. Drive state
    3. Improve communication method (radio/PTT)
    4. Visibility (cameras)

Usability Testing Session 1

  • Goal: To test hypothesis.
  • Hypothesis:

    • Displaying the driver display and telemetry/infotainment on two 10.1 in. center screens will provide the best user experience for both drivers/passengers and the electrical team

      • Cleaner look
      • Accessible/visible to both driver and passenger
      • Provides more horizontal dash space for side camera monitors
  • Main insights/design changes:
    1. Decrease size of driver display screen and move it behind steering wheel
    2. Make center console screen horizontal
    3. Add cruise control display
