- The U-joint connects the lower steering column to the upper steering column. It is a part of the upper steering column assembly.
- The part can be found here.
- To mate this to the proper point of the master geometry, the feature Move/Copy was used in SolidWorks.
- This was necessary as the U-joint CAD was supplied from the McMaster-Carr website as one part instead of as an assembly. Using this tool allows the part to rotate its individual components about a point.
Female Spline from Lower Steering Column to Rack
- The option that is currently (As of 2019/09/12) in the assembly can be found here.
- A 5/8 - 36 spline is required to mate the lower steering column to the pinion gear of the rack and pinion
- 5/8 signifies the outer diameter (in inches), 36 signifies the number of teeth
- This will most likely need to be an off-the-shelf part since it would be difficult/expensive for us to manufacture.
- The Pro-werks 5/8 - 36 spline was chosen as it had enough dimensions to be modelled.
