The Mechanical Team is a very large subteam comprised of sections including Dynamics, Aerobody, Chassis, and Battery Box. To give a general summary of each of the sections:

  • Dynamics is in charge of all things that move: suspension, steering and brakes. We work with the design, testing, and assembly of these systems with the rest of the car.

  • Aerobody is in charge of the exterior of the car. We design, test and manufacture the body panels of the car mainly using carbon fibre composites.

  • Chassis provides the strength needed for supporting the different vehicular components as well as the payload and helps to keep the car rigid and stiff to maximize safety and driving performance.

  • Battery Box is in charge of giving the car power to move. We assemble hundreds of lithium-ion battery cells into a battery pack that provides the necessary voltage and current for our motors.

Your Fall 2022 Subteam Leads

 (I have longer hair rn)

Jens Dekker - Dynamics Technical Lead

About Me
Hi, I’m Jens (yens). I just wrapped up my 2B term in Mech, and am currently on co-op at ATS. I’ve always been a sort of “jack of all trades, master of none” person and have a lot of random skills because of it. Sure, there’s a point about it being useful and whatnot, but I think its cool to whip out some random skill whenever it seems useful/entertaining.

Talk to Me About
Woodworking, Lockpicking (not crime related, gotta be clear on this), Financial Literacy, Peace Tea, Video Games, Computer Hardware, Board Games, Cardistry, Balisong Twirling, Beards, Europe …. honestly, just talk to me about anything and I might know something about it, or I might learn something new! (hopefully you’ll learn something new too!)

Michael Hanley - Mechanical PM & Aerobody Lead

About Me
Hey! My name is Michael and I just finished 2B of Nanotechnology Engineering. I am currently on coop at Vena Medical as an Opto-Mechanical Engineer. I joined Midnight Sun back in the beginning of 1A and I’ll mainly be leading the Aerobody optimization this term as well as making prototype Carbon Fiber parts. You can always approach me if you have questions or just want a friend to talk to!

Talk to Me About
I am a really big sports fan, I love to watch basketball, soccer and football. I also love to play sports as I have played competitive sports most of my life, so shoot me a message if you want to play or talk about it!

I really enjoy material science and chemistry (hence my choice to go in nano). Still got a lot learn but I’m always looking to improve and learn more all the time. :D

Always looking to make more friends so message me about anything, I’m always happy to talk!

Jasmine Thind - Aerobody Assistant Lead

About Me
Hey, my name is Jasmine! I just finished my coop at Skyjack and am heading into my 2A term in Mechanical Engineering. I joined Midnight Sun at the start of my 1B term and have since loved being a part of the team. I will be working with Michael as the Assistant Aerobody Lead, as well as focusing on thermoforming for this term!

Talk to Me About

I am a big hockey fan, sadly a Leaf’s fan LOL! I love watching hockey and playing, so if you are ever looking for someone to watch a game or go skating with, get in touch with me! I also enjoy going running in the mornings, getting bubble tea (lol), and just having fun with friends! Feel free to talk to me about anything, always happy to talk and make new friends! : )
